Abstract

This article shows that the assumption of an intense impact on the Caucasus Ossetian case system is much less justified than is commonly believed. To this end, the Ossetian case system is compared with a representative sample of case system language Northern Eurasia. In addition, he questioned the fact that in the course of evolution in the Ossetian language greatly decreased the number of cases: it is shown that on the basis of synchronous data is exactly the same conclusion could be drawn for the Armenian language. However, the latest development is well documented, and it is known that the case system there gradually evolved almost without changing any amount of any inventory. Thus, a similar scenario is not excluded and Ossetian. In addition, the article provides a
few examples of events that could equally well be attributed to the influence of the Caucasian languages and other languages of northern Eurasia or internal development.
