Research interests
Yuval Feldman is the Mori Lazarof Professor of Legal Research at Bar-Ilan University and head of the ERC-funded Voluntary Compliance Lab. He is also a professor of Psychology in Bar Ilan (by Curtesy) He received his Ph.D. in Jurisprudence and Social Policy from UC Berkeley in 2004 after earning his LL.B. and B.A. in Psychology from Bar-Ilan University in 1998 and clerking for Israeli Supreme Court Justice Tova Strasberg-Cohen.
Feldman's research integrates law with psychology, behavioral economics, public policy, and computational methods, focusing on the behavioral analysis of law, experimental and empirical legal studies, behavioral ethics, regulation, compliance, and trust-based enforcement.
He has authored close to ninety articles in leading journals, including the NYU, Texas, Georgetown, and Northwestern Law Reviews, the Journal of Legal Studies, the Journal of Empirical Legal Studies, Regulation & Governance, the Journal of European Public Policy, the Journal of Business Ethics, Psychological Science, Nature Human Behaviour, the Journal of Applied Psychology, Behavioural Public Policy, and the Journal of Experimental Social Psychology. His two Cambridge University Press monographs, The Law of Good People (2018) and Can the Public Be Trusted? (2025), have shaped the emerging field of behavioral compliance studies.
He has secured more than twenty-five competitive research grants from foundations including Olin, the German-Israeli Foundation, Marie Curie, the Israel Science Foundation (four awards as principal investigator), ERC Proof of Concept, and the Israel Institute for Advanced Studies, capped by the European Research Council Advanced Grant (2022 to 2027) on voluntary compliance across doctrines and nations.
Honors include the Rothschild, Fulbright, and Alon Fellowships, and the Zeltner (2008), Cheshin (2019), Bruno (2020), Fatal (2021), and Provost's Innovative Researcher (2023) awards, alongside membership in the Israel Young Academy (2016 to 2020). He co-founded ComplianceNet, a global network of compliance researchers, and serves on the editorial boards of Regulation & Governance, Law & Policy, and the European Journal of Law and Economics
