Research interests

Director, The Rivlin Institute for the History of the Land of Israel and its Settlement

I have been teaching at Bar-Ilan and at other institutions for over 25 years. During that period I have prepared and taught at least 20 different courses in the areas of the history, archaeology and historical geography of Israel in the biblical period. My main research interests are the history of the People of Israel and the Land of Israel during the biblical and early Second Temple periods, within the context of the Ancient Near East; Historical geography and the interface between the Bible, archaeology and history; Biblical genealogies; The society of biblical Israel. I have recently completed the first of a three-volume commentary on the Book of Chronicles, and am engaged in several other research projects. Over the years, I have also been involved in several archaeological excavations, and have taught in training courses for tour guides in Israel.
