Evgeny Weinberg is a cell biologist and dental surgeon, specialist in periodontology and implant dentistry. He is involved in clinical research in these fields at the Department of Periodontology and Oral Implantology at Tel Aviv University, and at the department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Beilinson Medical Center. His laboratory, which is located in the School of Dental Medicine at Tel Aviv University, is predominantly dedicated to basic research of the reaction of hard and soft tissues to periodontal diseases and dental implants. One of the main research topics is wound healing, for which, different cell culture protocols and animal models are applied. Tissue engineering techniques for gingiva-derived mesenchymal and epithelial stem cells are used to investigate bone regeneration and treatment of cutaneous and oral mucosal wounds. Furthermore, differenced between masticatory and lining oral mucosa and the determination of epithelial phenotype of each tissue are investigated using recombination studies and Omics technology.
