Personal profile

Research interests

  • Social work in the health care system
  • Mental, behavioral and social factors in health and illness
  • Dealing with chronic conditions (sick people, family members, professionals)
  • Formal and informal care for the elderly

My research work deals with social work in health care settings and focuses on the various aspects of the assessment of psychosocial adjustments of patients, their families, and professionals who work in the health care settings, and more specifically: professional burnout; cognitive perceptions and emotional reactions to illness (among professionals and patients); elderly abuse; end of life care. Recently, I have begun to examine patients' adaptation to special situations such as: dealing with chronic pain, and patients after unique medical interventions (e.g., bariatric surgery). I ushered the need to establish research evidence of the emerging psycho-social issues from my experience as a social worker in the health care setting.
