Research interests
Shay Ben-Aroya is a professor at the faculty of life sciences at Bar-Ilan University. Born in Israel at 1968. After a long military service (1987-1994) as a navy officer, Prof. Ben-Aroya received his BSc and MSc in Biology from Tel-Aviv University, and continued towards a PhD degree in Genetics in the same institution (2005). After a 4.5-years post-doctoral training at the University of British Columbia (Vancouver, Canada), he accepted a tenure-track senior scientist position in October 2009. The Ben-Aroya laboratory characterize new functional determinants required for chromosome stability, and protein quality control in yeast and in mammalian cells. The fundamental rationale that underlies their projects is that for highly conserved biological pathways, results from model organisms can greatly facilitate functional discovery in humans.

Our Laboratory uses the baker yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae as a model system for understanding Genome stability, Cancer and Protein Quality Control.
