Research interests
Noga Ayali-Darshan is Associate Professor in the Department of Hebrew and Semitic Languages at Bar-Ilan University. Her research focuses on the languages, literatures, and cultures of the ancient Near East. Employing philological and comparative methods, she examines the interrelations among Ugaritic, Mesopotamian, Hittite, Phoenician, Egyptian, and biblical traditions, with particular attention to the transmission and transformation of mythological and literary motifs. She is the author of The Storm-God and the Sea: The Origin, Versions, and Diffusion of a Myth throughout the Ancient Near East (2020) and Dying and Rising Gods: The History of a Mythologem in West Asia of the Second Millennium BCE (2024).
