Research interests

Dr. Gomel teaches Ladino courses for beginners and advanced students and courses for learning Ladino texts of various types.
In her master's thesis, she analyzed Ladino's problems in works of Hebrew literature. In her doctoral thesis, she researched textbooks for teaching Hebrew that were written in Ladino in the Ottoman Empire in the 19th and early 20th centuries.

She participated in international conferences where she presented her research, and published several articles on Ladino issues in Hebrew literature, rhetoric of different types of texts, the composition of Ladino Hebrews in various texts and issues related to the teaching of Ladino in Israel. She serves as a teaching fellow at the Institute for Ladino Studies. She is considered one of the most respected teachers in the field of teaching Ladino in Israel. Dr. Nivi Gomel together with Prof. Shmuel Raphael authored the two volumes of the Ladino textbook: "Ladino: The beginning of reading, writing and speaking" published by "Mishgav Jerusalem" next to the Hebrew University.
