Research interests

Teacher and educator, expert in Jewish political thought and in the study of Israeli society, Moshe Hellinger is an associate professor in the Department of Political Science at Bar-Ilan University and former deputy head of the department. He also lectures as an external teacher at the Faculty of Law at the university. In the past, he served as the head of the Schwartz Institute for Judaism, Ethics and State at Beit Morsha in Jerusalem, and as a research fellow at the Israel Democracy Institute. He also managed the dialogue between religious and secular people at Bar-Ilan University and the master's degree program in democracy and citizenship at the Bar-Ilan Department of Political Science. He also led the establishment of the program for a combined degree in law (bachelor's degree) and political science (secondary) in Bar-Ilan and managed it together with the deputy dean of the Faculty of Law, Dr. Yaakov Haba, and the establishment of the outstanding program of the Department of Political Science specializing in public administration and managed it in its first years .

His areas of teaching and research are comparative politics, political thought, Jewish political thought, Judaism and democracy, society and politics in the State of Israel, religious Zionism and more. He published books and articles in Hebrew and English dealing with religious Zionism and the State of Israel and Jewish political thought and also edited a book on Jewish political thought.

Prof. Hellinger has been involved in public activity for many years in an effort to strengthen the Jewish and democratic identity of the State of Israel. He lectured to diverse publics and advised various municipalities and the Ministry of Education in the fields of citizenship. He is also a member of the executive committee of the "Darkenu" movement.
