Research interests

Prof. Michael Avioz, an Israeli biblical scholar and full professor in the Department of Bible at Bar-Ilan University, where he served as department head from 2017 to 2020 and was elected dean of the Faculty of Jewish Studies for 2025–2027, specializes in biblical historiography (particularly the books of Samuel, Kings, and Chronicles), prophetic literature (especially the book of Jeremiah), and early biblical interpretation (with an emphasis on Josephus); he completed his master’s degree (1996) and doctorate (2002) at Bar-Ilan University, focusing on topics such as the siege narratives in Jeremiah and the negotiations between David and Nathan in Samuel, and in addition to his role at the university, he has taught at the College of Judea and Samaria, Ashkelon College, and Morashet Yaakov College.
