Research interests

Lilah Nethanel is an Israeli writer and scholar. She studied French Literature at Paris 8 university, France, where she received her M.A (2005-2007), written under the supervision of prof. Denis Bertrand. She wrote her Ph.D (2007-2011) at Bar-Ilan university, on David Vogel’s prose work, under the supervision of professor Avidov Lipsker. Currently a senior lecturer at the department of Literature of the Jewish People, at the Bar-Ilan University. Her research focuses on the history of modern Hebrew literature. In 2012 she edited together with Youval Shimoni, David Vogel's lost novel Wienner Romanze (Aufbau Verlag, 2013). Her book on the Hebrew and Yiddish writings of David Vogel was published in 2012 (Bar-Ilan University press). Her monograph study on the life and work of Zalman Shneour was published in 2019 (Mosad Bialik press). Her latest essay, Bound to Disappear: The Hebrew-European Writing Culture During the Early 20th Century, was edited by prof. Yfaat Weiss and appeared both in German (The Simon-Dubnow Institute, Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht, 2021) and Hebrew (Magnes, forthcoming 2023). She is currently conducting a ISF research project on David Frishman’s oeuvre.
