Research interests

The research in my group is directed towards understanding the structural and physical phenomena on atomic and molecular level at condensed phase interfaces i.e. solid-solid and solid-liquid. Molecules immersed in solvents that interact with solid surfaces form interfaces and two solids in contact form interfaces. These heterogeneous interfaces are poorly understood and can be investigated through the capabilities of solid-state NMR. The structural and dynamic characteristics of proteins and polynucleotides interacting with biomaterial and other material surfaces can be deciphered using our tools. Our solid state NMR capabilities coupled with surface analysis tools and macroscopic biophysical techniques are used to investigate in depth the structure and dynamics of biomolecules and their surrounding water on and off surfaces; to utilize better protein and DNA attachme I utilize the power of solid state NMR to give fundamental insights into materials used in cutting-edge lithium batteries and underpin processes that impede efficient shuttling of lithium ions in design of next-generation lithium battery electrodes.
