Personal profile

Research interests

  • Developing stem-cell (iPSC) based personalized platforms of the human BBB in order to study diversity in brain penetrability among individuals.
  • Elucidating the role of the BBB in neurological disease using patient-specific stem cells (iPSCs).
  • Studying cell-to-cell interactions between the various cells of the neurovascular unit (NVU) e.g. brain endothelial cells, pericytes, astrocytes and neurons.
  • Studying the mechanisms underlying leukodystrophys (diseases of the white matter), and development of translational cell-therapy approaches.
  • Pre-clinical development of translational strategies for BBB-targeted gene therapy, to treat the Allan Herndon Dudley syndrome (AHDS, also known as MCT8-deficiency).

Research interests

  • Our research aims to understand the mechanisms that underlie neurological disorders and develop personalized therapeutic approaches for patients. We use patient-specific stem cells to recreate diseases in a dish. Our main interest is to study the role of the blood brain barrier (BBB) in neurological disorders.
