Research interests

Elli Schachter is Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Education of Bar-Ilan University in Israel, and Heads the Eliezer Stern Institute for the Study and Advancement of Religious Education.

He studied Clinical Psychology and completed his PhD in Psychology at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He moved to the School of Education at Bar-Ilan University in 2002. He specializes in studying identity development in adolescence and emerging adulthood. His particular current interest is in studting the interface of identity development and educational experiences, processes and relationships. He was formerly associate editor of Journal of Adolescent Research for 7 years, and is currently a member of the editorial boards of the journals – Identity: An International Journal of Theory and Research and International Journal of Jewish Education Research. He has also served as head of the Educational Counselling track at the Bar Ilan School of Education.
