Research interests

Prof. Dov Ber Kotlerman graduated the Rena Costa Center for Yiddish Studies at Bar-Ilan University (PhD, 2001) and the Faculty of Journalism at the Moscow State University (MA, 1992). Since 1997 he has been lecturing at the Rena Costa Center for Yiddish Studies and in 2003-2008 – at the Bar Ilan interdisciplinary program “Contemporary Jewry”. In 2011-14 he served as Academic Director of the Rena Costa Center for Yiddish Studies.
Professional fields of interest:

  • Yiddish language and culture,
  • Old Yiddish, history of the Jews in Eastern Europe, the USSR, and the Far East,
  • Jewish onomastics,
  • Sh.Y. Agnon's early works,
  • Yiddish literature and theater,
  • Jewish cinema.

Within the above-listed fields he has published a number of monographs and articles in academic journals, edited collections of articles, and gave invited talks and public lectures at numerous international conferences .
