Organisation profile

The Center for Media and Law (under construction) is a joint center for the Faculty of Law and the School of Communication at Bar-Ilan University. Objectives of the Center:
(1) Promoting and cultivating interdisciplinary research into the social, legal and media implications of legal coverage in the Israeli media and the changes that take place therein. Among the topics on which the center will focus: the implications of court coverage of the court's status in Israeli society and changes in the conduct of legal proceedings in the modern media era;
(2) the publication of a unique scientific journal in the world dedicated to the relationship between law and the media (unlike media policy);
(3) organization of joint working meetings and seminars for judges, lawyers, police officers and journalists for the purpose of discussing common issues between the judiciary and the media in Israel;
(4) organizing professional training for legal and media professionals;
(5) training students for research in the field of communication and law;
(6) preparation of position papers to be submitted to the authorities, bodies and individuals participating in the dialogue between the court and the media;
(7) development of teaching systems for high schools on the Israeli legal system and its representation in the media;
(8) Assistance in the development of programs for academic degrees in the field of communication and law.

המרכז לתקשורת ומשפט (בהקמה) הינו מרכז משותף לפקולטה למשפטים ולבית-הספר לתקשורת באוניברסיטת בר-אילן. מטרות המרכז: (1) קידום וטיפוח מחקר בינתחומי של ההשלכות החברתיות, המשפטיות והתקשורתיות של סיקור המשפט בתקשורת הישראלית והשינויים המתחוללים בו. בין הנושאים שבהם המרכז יתמקד: ההשלכות של סיקור המשפט על מעמדו של בית-המשפט בחברה הישראלית והשינויים בניהול ההליך המשפטי בעידן התקשורת המודרנית; (2) הוצאה לאור של כתב-עת מדעי ייחודי בעולם שייוחד ליחסי המשפט והתקשורת (בשונה מדיני תקשורת); (3) ארגון מפגשי עבודה וימי עיון משותפים לשופטים, עורכי-דין, קציני משטרה ועיתונאים לצורך דיון בנושאים משותפים בין המשפט לתקשורת בישראל; (4) ארגון השתלמויות מקצועיות לאנשי המשפט והתקשורת; (5) הכשרת סטודנטים למחקר של תחום התקשורת ומשפט; (6) הכנת ניירות עמדה שיוגשו לרשויות, לגופים ולפרטים המשתתפים בשיח בין המשפט לתקשורת; (7) פיתוח מערכי הוראה לבתי-הספר התיכוניים על מערכת המשפט בישראל וייצוגיה בתקשורת; (8) סיוע בפיתוח של תוכניות לתארים אקדמיים בתחום התקשורת ומשפט.
