Vision of the Retorno University Center
The Retorno Association and Bar-Ilan University have expressed their willingness to establish the University Center as a common, innovative and groundbreaking model, led by the Department of Criminology with representatives from other departments. The overarching goals of the model are to improve the service provided in Retorno, to create evolving up-to-date knowledge and disseminate it to field professionals, researchers and stakeholders, keeping in mind that academic knowledge and in particular criminological knowledge can contribute greatly to work in addiction treatment.
Objectives of the University Center:
- Connection between fieldwork in Retorno and researchers at the university for the continuous production of applied and basic knowledge;
- Training Retorno employees as actual researchers and even entrepreneurs and research managers if possible;
- Creating mechanisms for continuous collection of data, their analysis and drawing conclusions for an evidence-based and evidence-creating application;
- Creating mechanisms of multidisciplinary collaborations;
- Creation of a training center for students;
- Creation of a professional training center;
- Writing and publishing scientific and professional literature in the usual channels, including organizing professional conferences and appearing at conferences in Israel and around the world;
- turning Retorno into a "center of excellence" that will specialize in the field of unique treatment (and the use of unique techniques) and will be a milestone for other treatment and rehabilitation bodies of addicts;
- Duplication and application of the Retorno model for the establishment of a parallel community for the treatment and rehabilitation of offenders without a background of addictions, as an alternative to imprisonment
